About Taroko Gorge

The Liwu River carved this 19-kilometer marble canyon over millions of years. It sits at the center of Taroko National Park, which covers 92,000 hectares of mountainous terrain. You can reach the park easily from Hualien City.

A massive earthquake in April 2024 caused extensive damage to the region. Some central areas and trails remain closed for restoration. Provincial Highway 8 enforces time-restricted traffic access, usually with five daily release windows. Check Earthquake Updates for current updates.

Visitors can still access safe sections of the park. Most open trails require safety helmets due to frequent rockfalls. Read our Taroko Gorge Itinerary guide to organize your day effectively.

Loved the incredible views of the Taroka Gorge and walking on the suspension bridge! George, our tour guide, was nice, knowledgeable and amazing at navigating the narrow roads with expertise.

We had a great day! I can't imagine anyone knowing more than Jack about Taroko, and how to navigate the partial park closure. Great stories about the area, the history, the native tribes and Jack's personal experiences. I learned more than I ever expected!

Paul went above and beyond to make this day special and memorable for us! We were a three generational family group and he accommodated everyone masterfully. His expertise and local knowledge allowed him to adjust the schedule to fit our needs, and he did it all with care and great communication. We can’t thank Paul enough for being an amazing guide!

Fantastic day trip with Joshua! Very nice and personable guy with excellent English. Taroko is partially closed at this time, but we were able to enter and still see the beautiful scenery and temples. Then went on to several wonderful and interesting sites along the east coast, including a couple of nature walks with beautiful vistas. Highly recommend!
